Koh Kut is one of Thailand's last untouched paradises and a true jewel in the Gulf of Thailand near the Cambodian border. The island impresses with its pristine nature, crystal-clear water, and a deeply relaxed atmosphere far away from mass tourism. Highlights include the picturesque Klong Chao Waterfall and the white Klong Chao Beach, while the impressive, ancient Makka trees in the rainforest also invite exploration. Since the island does not have a large deep-water port, cruise ships anchor in the bay and bring guests to Ao Tapao Pier by tender boat. From this central landing point, the interior of the island is quickly accessible thanks to short distances, allowing travelers to enjoy the untouched beauty and idyllic tranquility to the fullest.
Koh Kut is an idyllic island in Thailand, known for its untouched nature and quiet beaches. The port on Koh Kut is not a classic cruise terminal for large ships, but serves as a landing point for ferries and speedboats from the mainland. International travelers from the DACH region primarily reach the island via the mainland in Trat.
Airplane
Arrival from the DACH region typically involves a long-haul flight to Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK). From there, Bangkok Airways offers domestic flights to Trat Airport (TDX) several times a day. Trat Airport is located about an hour's drive from Laem Sok Pier, the main departure point for ferries to Koh Kut.
Transfer & Ferry
From Trat Airport (TDX), you can easily reach Laem Sok Pier by minibus or private transfer. Organized van and catamaran packages are available and cost from around 1000 THB (approx. 26 EUR), including the bus transfer to the pier and the speedboat crossing to the island. The journey from the airport to the pier takes about one hour. Alternatively, you can take a direct bus or minibus from Bangkok to Laem Sok Pier, which takes 5 to 8 hours and is also often offered as a combination ticket with the ferry. The ferry crossing from Laem Sok to Koh Kut (e.g., Ao Salad Pier) takes about 1 to 2 hours depending on the type of boat. Guarded parking spaces are available at Laem Sok Pier for approx. 50-100 Baht per day.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long journey from Europe and limited ferry times (usually until late afternoon), an overnight stay on the mainland in Trat or directly on Koh Kut the day before embarkation is highly recommended. This allows for a relaxed start to your vacation and ensures that you reach the ferry on time. In Trat and on Koh Kut, there are numerous resorts and hotels for every taste, which often also offer transfer services.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port and bear in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the shipping company and destination - is usually about one hour before the planned departure.
