Large cruise ships dock at the modern Laem Chabang Cruise Terminal, located about 90 to 120 minutes from the vibrant center, providing convenient access to the cultural treasures and culinary delights of the Thai capital thanks to excellent transfer connections.
The cruise port of Laem Chabang, located approximately 120 to 130 kilometers southeast of the capital, serves as the primary maritime gateway to the pulsating metropolis of Bangkok. While the modern Cruise Terminal A is functionally equipped, it is situated within a sprawling industrial area. For this reason, walking within the port grounds is not recommended, and transfers are essential for leaving the site.
Airplane
Arrival from the DACH region usually takes place by plane via Bangkok's international airports. Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) is around 100 to 109 kilometers from the port, with a travel time of approximately 1 hour 6 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes by car or taxi. Don Mueang Airport (DMK) is about 128 to 139 kilometers away, with a transfer time of approximately 1 hour 27 minutes to 1 hour 39 minutes.
Transfer & Shuttle
Due to the distance and the industrial nature of the port, private transfers or shuttles are the most comfortable and safest option. Numerous providers offer private taxis or minivans directly from the airport or a hotel in Bangkok to the terminal. The costs for the port entrance fee (between 400 and 600 THB) are often included in the price with reputable providers. Many cruise lines also offer their own shuttle buses, while public transportation such as buses and trains exists but requires longer travel times and transfers.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
For travelers from Europe, arriving at least one, or ideally two days before the cruise is strongly recommended. A pre-cruise hotel in Bangkok allows for relaxed acclimatization after the long-haul flight and also offers the opportunity to explore the fascinating Thai capital before embarkation. Good hotel options for a shorter transfer can also be found in Pattaya, about 25 to 35 kilometers north of the port.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
