Hualien is the fascinating gateway to Taiwan's majestic east coast and impresses with its dramatic natural scenery between the Pacific and the Central Mountain Range. Thanks to its ideal location, travelers can reach world-famous highlights such as the spectacular Taroko Gorge, the picturesque Qixingtan Beach, and the historic Pine Garden estate in a short time. Cruise ships dock at the modern Hualien Cruise Terminal at Piers 23 to 25, from where the lively city center is about five kilometers away and can be easily reached in just ten minutes thanks to provided shuttle buses or taxis.
Hualien, located on the picturesque east coast of Taiwan, is a fascinating gateway to the island's natural beauty and is typically accessible by plane for cruise guests from the DACH region. The port is well-connected, and the main terminal is centrally located, allowing for a convenient embarkation.
Airplane
The nearest airport is Hualien Airport (HLN), located about 7 kilometers from the cruise terminal. This airport primarily offers domestic flights. For international arrivals from the DACH region, Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) near Taipei is the first choice. Direct or comfortable connecting flights to TPE are available from Frankfurt, Munich, and Zurich. Further travel from TPE to Hualien can be made by domestic flight to HLN or by high-speed train.
Train
Hualien Station is an important hub for the Taiwanese railway and offers regular connections from major cities such as Taipei, Kaohsiung, and Taitung. The route from Taipei to Hualien is particularly well-known for its scenic beauty. From Hualien Station to the cruise terminal, it is only about 2-3 kilometers, which can be easily covered by taxi in about 5-10 minutes.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long journey from the DACH region and the time difference, it is recommended to arrive in Taiwan at least one day before the planned embarkation. An overnight stay in one of the numerous hotels in Hualien offers not only a relaxed acclimatization but also the opportunity to explore the city and its surroundings, such as Taroko National Park, before the cruise. Many hotels in Hualien are well-connected to the port or offer their own shuttle services.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
