Sokcho is a fascinating jewel on the northeast coast of South Korea and the maritime gateway to the country's most spectacular natural landscapes. The cruise port of Sokcho, the Sokcho International Cruise Terminal, is located at Daepo Harbour on the southern outskirts of the city and was modernized in 2017 to directly accommodate ships of up to 100,000 tons, meaning no tender boats are required. The terminal is well-equipped with arrival and departure halls, a tourist information center, and currency exchange facilities.
Airplane
For international guests from the DACH region, traveling by plane is the most common choice. The nearest airport is Yangyang International Airport (YNY), only about 15 to 18 kilometers from Sokcho, with a taxi ride to the port taking approximately 25 minutes. Alternatively, you can reach Sokcho via the international airports Incheon (ICN) or Gimpo (GMP) near Seoul. From Incheon International Airport (ICN), there is a direct bus connection to Sokcho, which takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes. From Gimpo International Airport (GMP), the fastest connection by subway and bus takes about 3 hours and 16 minutes.
Bus & Train
Since Sokcho does not have its own KTX station, it is best to travel by high-speed train to Gangneung KTX Station. From there, a comfortable intercity bus will take you to the Sokcho Intercity Bus Terminal in about 1 hour and 11 minutes to 1 hour and 37 minutes. Regular express buses also run from Seoul to the Sokcho Express Bus Terminal, with a travel time of approximately 2 hours and 12 minutes to 3 hours. From both the Intercity and Express Bus Terminals in Sokcho, you can reach the nearby cruise terminal quickly and easily by taxi.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long journey from the DACH region and the transfer times from the international airports to the port of Sokcho, it is highly recommended to arrive at least one day before embarkation. This allows you a relaxed start to your cruise and provides the opportunity to adjust to the time difference. In Sokcho, you will find numerous accommodation options ranging from comfortable hotels to resorts, providing an ideal base for an initial exploration of the city or the nearby Seoraksan National Park.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents usually provide a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
