For traveling to Kalanggaman Island, a combination of long-haul flights and domestic flights is the most efficient way. The nearest major airports are Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) in Cebu and Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport (TAC) in Tacloban City, Leyte. Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) is the primary international airport and offers various connections from hubs, while Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport (TAC) serves as an important national hub for flights from Manila or Cebu. Flight time from Manila to Tacloban is approximately one hour.
Transfer and Shuttle
From the airports, the journey to Kalanggaman Island is multi-stage: first, you travel by land or sea to Palompon in Leyte, the main starting point for the island. From Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport (TAC) in Tacloban, vans or buses run to Palompon, with the journey taking about 3 to 4 hours for the approximately 120 kilometers. From Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB), travelers can take a ferry from Cebu Pier to Palompon, which takes between 2.5 and 6.5 hours depending on the type of ferry. Alternatively, a domestic flight from Cebu to Tacloban followed by the land journey to Palompon is possible. Once in Palompon, guests register at the Palompon Eco-Tourism Office, from where the approximately one-hour boat trip to Kalanggaman Island begins.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long international flight times and the multi-stage journey with transfers and boat trips, a pre-cruise overnight stay is recommended. Since Kalanggaman Island itself is uninhabited and offers no hotels or restaurants – only camping options with prior permission – an overnight stay in Palompon is advisable. Hotels are also available in Cebu City or Tacloban City to arrive relaxed after the long-haul flight and continue the journey the next day well-rested. Many boat trips to the island start in the morning, which is why an overnight stay in Palompon before the excursion to the island is advantageous.
Check-in & Embarkation
