Kota Kinabalu on Borneo is a fascinating cruise port that is easily accessible thanks to good flight connections and efficient transfers. Large cruise ships usually dock at the International Cruise Terminal Kota Kinabalu (ICTKK) in Sepanggar Bay, which is located about 15 to 20 kilometers north of the city center.
Airplane
Arrival from the DACH region is primarily by plane via Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI), the second largest airport in Malaysia. The airport is located only around 7 to 8 kilometers southwest of the city center. Direct flights to Kota Kinabalu are available from major Asian hubs such as Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, allowing for a convenient onward journey. Due to the long flight time, it is recommended to arrive at least one day before embarkation.
Transfer & Shuttle
From BKI airport, you can get to the cruise terminal or the city center quickly. A taxi ride to Jesselton Quay (near the former Jesselton Point ferry terminal) takes about 8 minutes and costs between 25 and 31 RM. Numerous private transfer services as well as the ride-sharing app Grab offer flexible and comfortable rides. In addition, airport buses run from Terminal 1 to the Wawasan Plaza Bus Terminal in the city center, with a travel time of around 25 to 30 minutes and a price of 5 to 6 RM.

For a relaxed start to your cruise, an overnight stay in one of the many hotels in Kota Kinabalu City Centre is recommended. Many accommodations are conveniently located near shopping malls, restaurants, and local attractions, allowing you to enjoy the city's charming flair before embarkation.
