Yokohama is the dazzling gateway to the Greater Tokyo Area and masterfully combines Japanese tradition with futuristic architecture. The modern port city impresses with its expansive promenades on the Pacific and an iconic skyline that creates a highly inviting atmosphere thanks to its openness. Directly on the water, highlights such as the futuristic Minato Mirai 21 district, the historic Red Brick Warehouses, and the colorful Yokohama Chinatown delight visitors. Most cruise ships dock at the architecturally award-winning Osanbashi International Passenger Terminal, which is located right in the heart of the city. From here, travelers can easily reach the vibrant center on foot while enjoying a spectacular panoramic view of the picturesque Tokyo Bay.
Yokohama is the maritime gateway to Japan and impresses with its Osanbashi, Shinko Pier, and Daikoku Pier terminals, the latter of which was specifically designed for megaliners. Thanks to its strategic location in Tokyo Bay and the metropolitan region's excellent infrastructure, you can reach your ship comfortably and efficiently.
Airplane
Arrival from the DACH region is via Tokyo's two international airports, with Haneda Airport (HND) being the closest option at a distance of around 20 kilometers and a travel time of about 25 minutes by taxi or Airport Limousine Bus. Narita Airport (NRT) is located about 100 kilometers away and offers a direct connection to Yokohama Station in around 90 minutes thanks to the comfortable Narita Express (N'EX); alternatively, regular Limousine Buses are available directly to major hotels and terminals.
Train
For guests already traveling in Japan or coming from Tokyo, Shin-Yokohama Station is the central arrival point for Shinkansen high-speed trains from cities such as Osaka or Kyoto. From there, as well as from Yokohama Main Station, you can take the Minatomirai Line directly to Nihon-odori station for the Osanbashi Terminal or Bashamichi for Shinko Pier, while organized cruise line shuttle buses from Yokohama Station are usually available for the Daikoku Terminal.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long flight time of over 12 hours and the time difference, a stay of at least one night in a hotel in the futuristic Minato Mirai district or at Yamashita Park is recommended. These accommodations are often within direct sight of the harbor, offer first-class service for international guests, and allow for a relaxed start to the cruise while you explore the city's cultural highlights.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
