Yatsushiro, also known as Kumamon Port Yatsushiro, is a modern cruise port in Kumamoto Prefecture on Japan's island of Kyushu. The port is located about six kilometers from the city center and the main train stations, offering a modern terminal structure where ships dock directly, making tendering unnecessary.

Airplane

For international guests from the DACH region, traveling by plane is the most common option. The nearest airport is Kumamoto Airport (KMJ), located about 44 kilometers from Yatsushiro. From there, you can reach the port by car in around 42 minutes. Alternatively, the "Super Bampeiyu" expressway bus offers a direct connection between Kumamon Port Mae and Kumamoto Airport. Another travel option is Fukuoka Airport (FUK), located about 123 kilometers to the north. From Fukuoka (Hakata Station), you can reach Shin-Yatsushiro Station comfortably via Shinkansen in about one hour and two minutes.

Train

The relevant train station for cruise guests is Shin-Yatsushiro Station, an important stop on the Kyushu Shinkansen (bullet train). Free or low-cost shuttle buses usually run from the port, taking passengers directly to Shin-Yatsushiro Station in about 15 to 20 minutes. Taxis are also available and take around 15 minutes for the route. From Shin-Yatsushiro Station, you can reach the center of Kumamoto City by Shinkansen in just 12 minutes. Be sure to head for Shin-Yatsushiro Station and not the local Yatsushiro Station.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long journey from the DACH region, a relaxing pre-cruise overnight stay is recommended. A hotel in Kumamoto City or Yatsushiro before embarkation day creates a valuable buffer and allows for a stress-free start to your cruise. Many hotels in the region are excellently connected and provide a good base for exploring local sights before your cruise experience begins.
