Tsuruga is picturesquely situated on Wakasa Bay in Fukui Prefecture and is considered an important historical gateway to the Sea of Japan. A train journey from NGO to Tsuruga Station takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes with transfers, for instance via Nagoya and Maibara.
Train
The JR Tsuruga Station is a major hub and serves as the gateway to the Hokuriku region. It is very well connected to the surrounding metropolises: from Osaka, you can reach Tsuruga with the Limited Express Thunderbird in about 80 minutes, and from Kyoto, the travel time is about 50 minutes. A train journey from Nagoya with the Shirasagi Limited Express takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes. For the short distance from JR Tsuruga Station to the cruise terminal, which is about 3 to 4 kilometers, convenient options are available: taxis will take you to the port in about 3 minutes, or you can use the hourly local buses, which take about 12 to 15 minutes. Additionally, cruise lines often provide free shuttle buses from the station to the terminal.
