Nagoya is the vibrant heart of Japan's central Chubu region and impresses as a major port location with a fascinating blend of maritime tradition and modern urbanity. The extensive grounds at Ise Bay radiate a welcoming atmosphere and offer travelers direct access to first-class attractions thanks to its spacious promenades. Highlights in the immediate vicinity include the impressive Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium, the historic research ship Fuji, and the striking Nagoya Port Building with its observation deck. Cruise ships usually dock at the central Garden Pier, from where the Nagoyako subway station can be reached in just a few minutes on foot. This provides a convenient and direct connection to the city center of Sakae as well as the magnificent Nagoya Castle.
Nagoya is one of Japan's largest ports and a significant port of call for cruises, offering excellent connections to the city center and international airports. The port features two piers: Kinjo Pier for larger ships and Garden Pier for smaller luxury liners, both of which are easily accessible via public transportation.
Airplane
Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO) is the nearest international airport, located approximately 25 to 35 kilometers from the port and Nagoya city center. Thanks to the Meitetsu μ-SKY Limited Express train, you can reach Meitetsu Nagoya Station comfortably and quickly in about 28 minutes. Private shuttle services are also available, providing direct transfers to the port.
Train
From central Nagoya Station, you can reach Kinjo Pier, where larger ships dock, directly via the Aonami Line to Kinjofuto Station in about 25 minutes, followed by a short five-minute walk to the pier. For smaller ships at Garden Pier, take a JR train to Kanayama Station (approx. 3 minutes), where you can easily transfer to the Meiko Subway Line to Nagoyako Station (about 10 minutes), located just one to five minutes' walk from the pier. For exploring the city and the port, day passes such as the "Donichi Eco Ticket" (on weekends) or a 24-hour subway pass are recommended.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long journey from the DACH region, we recommend a pre-cruise hotel to start your cruise relaxed. Hotels in Downtown Nagoya or the lively Sakae district are excellent options, as they offer good connections to the train stations, making the transfer to the port on embarkation day much easier.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally about one hour before the scheduled departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times may change at short notice.
