The nearest international airport is New Chitose Airport (CTS), located approximately 87 to 93 kilometers from Muroran. There are several options for your onward journey to the port: A direct bus connection, operated by Donan Bus, takes about 1 hour 49 minutes to 1 hour 52 minutes to Muroran, with several departures daily. Alternatively, a train journey, which requires a transfer at Minami-Chitose Station, takes approximately 1 hour 41 minutes to Higashi-Muroran. For a relaxed and direct arrival, a private transfer is recommended, taking about 2.5 hours and bringing you comfortably to the terminal. Due to the long flight time from the DACH region, an overnight stay in one of the hotels near the airport or in Muroran itself on the day before embarkation is recommended to be well-rested and on board on time.
Train
The relevant train stations for Muroran are JR Muroran and JR Higashi-Muroran. From New Chitose Airport, you can reach Higashi-Muroran after a transfer in Minami-Chitose in about 1 hour 41 minutes using JR HOKKAIDO (Hokkaido Railway Company) trains. From JR Muroran Station, it is about a 15-minute walk to the Muroran Port Ferry Terminal.
