The port itself offers limited amenities, but the nearby Kumanoshi Station is a practical starting point for explorations.
Airplane
The nearest international airports are Kansai International Airport (KIX) near Osaka and Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO) near Nagoya. From KIX, you can reach Kumano by car in about 2.5 hours (approx. 170 km). A train journey from KIX to Kumanoshi Station takes around 6.5 hours, including transfers. From Nagoya Airport (NGO), the Limited Express Nanki connects directly to Shingu Station (near Kumano) in about 3.5 hours. Traveling by car from Nagoya to Kumano-Odomari takes approximately 2 hours 45 minutes. For a relaxed arrival from the DACH region, an overnight stay in Osaka or Nagoya is recommended due to the long flight time.
Train
The most important station for Kumano is Kumanoshi Station (熊野市駅), which is served by the JR Central Kisei Main Line. Good train connections exist from major Japanese cities such as Osaka or Nagoya, often via the Limited Express to Shingu, from where Kumanoshi is easily accessible. From Kumanoshi Station, a short taxi ride or a shuttle bus will take you to Shichirihama Port. Cruise lines often provide free shuttle services for this purpose.
Car & Parking
The city of Kumano is well-connected to the road network thanks to National Routes 42, 169, 309, and 311. For those arriving from the Nagoya region, use the Higashi-Meihan, Ise, and Kisei Expressways to the Kumano-Odomari IC exit; from there, National Route 42 leads directly toward Shingu. Short-term and long-term parking is available at the cruise port. Additionally, local attractions such as the Kumano Hongu Heritage Center and the starting point of the Kumano River Boat Cruise also offer parking spaces.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time – depending on the cruise line and destination – is generally about one hour before the scheduled departure.
