Hiroshima is a deeply moving destination on the picturesque Seto Inland Sea, combining historical depth with modern Japanese hospitality. Cruise ships dock at the modern Hiroshima Port (Ujina Foreign Trade Wharf), from where the city center can be reached quickly and comfortably thanks to the direct connection to the efficient "Hiroden" tram network.
Hiroshima is an excellently developed port on the Seto Inland Sea and impresses with its efficient connection to the Japanese transport network. Cruise ships primarily use the Ujina Passenger Terminal in the south of the city or the extensive Itsukaichi Pier, with both locations guaranteeing smooth logistics for international guests.
Airplane
Hiroshima Airport (HIJ) is the primary aviation hub for the region and is located about 50 minutes' drive from the city center. Travelers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland mostly use connecting flights via Tokyo-Haneda or Seoul and reach the port conveniently by Airport Limousine Bus or taxi. Alternatively, Osaka-Kansai Airport (KIX) allows for arrival via express train and Shinkansen in about two hours, which is very flexible thanks to the high frequency of the trains.
Train
Arrival by train is via the central Hiroshima Station, which is located directly on the Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen line and enables fast connections from all over Japan. From there, tram line 1 or 5 leads directly to the Ujina Terminal in just under half an hour, offering travelers a comfortable first view of the city. For ships at Itsukaichi Pier, guests use the JR Sanyo Line to Itsukaichi Station, from where short shuttle connections to the ship are available.
Transfer & Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long flight duration from the DACH region, arriving at least one day before embarkation is very sensible and also allows for sightseeing of the historical landmarks. Hotels in the area of Hiroshima Station or near the Peace Park offer an ideal starting point and frequently organize private transfers to the terminals. Arrival by taxi or rental car is also quick and safe thanks to the connection via the Sanyo Expressway (E2) and well-developed city roads.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
