Returning to the ship

Sabang on Pulau Weh, Indonesia, is a unique cruise port whose accessibility for guests from the DACH region is primarily achieved through a combination of air travel and ferry transfer. The special island location makes the journey an experience that should be well-planned to ensure a relaxed start to the cruise.

Airplane

Travel from the DACH region usually leads via international hubs in Asia to Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport (BTJ) in Banda Aceh on Sumatra. This airport is located approximately 17 kilometers from the Ulee Lheue ferry terminal in Banda Aceh. There are no direct flights from Europe, so connecting flights, for example via Kuala Lumpur (KUL) or Jakarta (CGK), are required. Thanks to the good connection to Southeast Asian hubs, Banda Aceh is easy to reach, although the flight duration from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland is correspondingly long and arrival on the previous day is strongly recommended.

Ferry & Transfer

From Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport (BTJ) in Banda Aceh, you can reach the Ulee Lheue ferry terminal in about 20-30 minutes by taxi or a pre-arranged transfer. From there, fast ferries (about 45-60 minutes travel time) or slower ferries (approx. 2-3 hours travel time) operate several times daily to Balohan on Pulau Weh, the main ferry port of Sabang. The ferry crossing already offers first impressions of the picturesque island world. From the Balohan ferry terminal in Sabang, it is then another 15-20 minutes by taxi or a local transport medium to the actual cruise terminal or your accommodation.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long journey and the ferry connection, an overnight stay in Banda Aceh or Sabang before the day of embarkation is highly recommended. A pre-cruise hotel in Banda Aceh allows you to coordinate flight and ferry times without stress and continue your journey rested. Alternatively, you can stay overnight in Sabang directly after arrival on Pulau Weh and thus reach the terminal relaxed the next day to begin your cruise. Many hotels also offer assistance in organizing transfers to the ferry terminal and onwards to the cruise ship.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the journey: For shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
