Makassar is the vibrant capital of South Sulawesi and is considered the lively gateway to Eastern Indonesia. Highlights in the immediate vicinity include the imposing Fort Rotterdam from the Dutch colonial era and the famous Losari beach promenade, which is especially popular for its culinary delights at sunset. Airplane
Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport (UPG) is the nearest airport and serves as an important hub for Eastern Indonesia. It is located approximately 19 to 20 kilometers northeast of Makassar city center. For travel from the DACH region, connecting flights via major hubs such as Jakarta, Bali, or Singapore are generally required, so an early arrival is recommended.
Transfer & Shuttle
From UPG airport, you can easily reach the port or the city center by taxi in about 15 to 30 minutes. Official airport taxis offer fixed rates, and ride-sharing apps like Grab and Gojek are also available for fixed prices. Many hotels also offer paid or free airport transfers, which further facilitates onward travel to your pre-cruise hotel or the port.

Due to the long journey from Europe, an overnight stay in Makassar before embarkation is highly recommended. Numerous hotels in the city center or near the airport offer excellent opportunities for relaxation. Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
