Port information & tips for Phulia

Phulia is a fascinating destination on the banks of the sacred Hooghly River in West Bengal and is considered the prominent center of traditional Indian weaving. The town impresses with its authentic atmosphere and deep connection to local craftsmanship, offering travelers a unique glimpse into rural India thanks to its idyllic location. Cultural highlights include visiting the famous hand-weaving centers for the elaborate Tant saris and a visit to Krittibas Bhawan, the historical birthplace of the legendary poet Krittibas Ojha. River cruise ships dock directly at the Phulia Jetty, from where the weaving centers and sights are easily accessible within a few minutes on foot or by traditional rickshaw.

Although Phulia is not known as a traditional ocean cruise port in India, this charming town in the state of West Bengal, famous for its weaving, is accessible via various routes. Phulia is located on the Hooghly River, but it does not have the typical infrastructure of a cruise terminal for the embarkation of passengers. However, travelers wishing to visit this location can reach it easily.

Car

Phulia is well-connected to the road network and is located directly on National Highway 12 (formerly NH 34). Traveling from Kolkata (Calcutta), approximately 80 kilometers to the south, is convenient via this highway. For the town of Phulia itself, there are no special parking facilities in the sense of a cruise port; parking usually takes place near accommodations or sights.

Train

Phulia railway station is part of the Kolkata (Calcutta) railway network and is operated by Eastern Railway. Direct connections exist from Kolkata, especially from Sealdah station, with the local suburban train (Santipur Local), which reaches Phulia after about 89 kilometers. From Phulia station, you can get around using local rickshaws or auto-rickshaws.

Airplane

The nearest international airport is Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) in Kolkata (Calcutta). From here, the distance to Phulia is around 80 to 89 kilometers. After landing, taxis and private transfer services are available for the onward journey to Phulia. For a relaxed journey from the DACH region, an overnight stay in Kolkata is recommended before continuing to Phulia.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the trip: For shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
