Port information & tips for Shanghai Baoshan
Shanghai is the pulsating gateway to modern China and welcomes travelers to the Baoshan district with a fascinating blend of maritime heritage and futuristic dynamism. The port is spectacularly situated at the confluence of the Yangtze River and the Huangpu, offering an impressive view of the busy shipping traffic of this global metropolis thanks to its location. In the immediate vicinity, the idyllic Paotaiwan Wetland Park and the extensive Gucun Park invite you to take relaxing walks and also provide exciting insights into the local culture. Cruise ships dock at the state-of-the-art Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal, from where the city center, about 25 kilometers away with the famous Bund, can be reached easily and quickly by taxi or metro.
Shanghai Baoshan, officially known as Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal, is located in the northern Baoshan District at the mouth of the Yangtze River and is one of Asia's most modern cruise ports. The extensive terminal structure is designed to handle multiple mega-liners simultaneously and, thanks to its location in the global metropolis of Shanghai, is excellently connected to international infrastructure.
Airplane
Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) is served by direct flights from Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, and Vienna and is located about 60 kilometers from the cruise terminal. Travel time by taxi or private transfer is approximately 60 to 90 minutes depending on traffic; additionally, Hongqiao Airport (SHA) offers an alternative for travelers with intra-Asian connecting flights at a distance of about 40 kilometers.
Transfer & Taxi
The most comfortable way to arrive is by taxi or a pre-booked private transfer via the S20 motorway (Outer Ring Road) and the Yixian Elevated Road directly to Baoyang Road at the harbor entrance. Those using the efficient Metro should take Line 3 to Baoyang Road station and cover the remaining three kilometers to check-in conveniently with one of the available taxis or a free port shuttle.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long flight time from the DACH region and to make optimal use of the 144-hour visa-free transit, arriving at least one day before embarkation is recommended. Many guests choose a hotel near the Bund or directly in the Baoshan District to explore the metropolis stress-free and arrive at the ship on time on departure day thanks to short distances.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally about one hour before the scheduled departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times may change at short notice.
