Durban is the vibrant gateway to the province of KwaZulu-Natal and, as South Africa's most important port city, fascinates with a unique mix of African flair, Indian influences, and modern urbanity. The metropolis is picturesquely situated on the Indian Ocean and offers endless sandy beaches and a year-round warm climate thanks to its extensive "Golden Mile" promenade. In close proximity to the harbor, attractions such as uShaka Marine World, the Moses Mabhida Stadium, and the colorful Victoria Street Markets delight visitors. Cruise ships dock at the modern Nelson Mandela Cruise Terminal, which offers first-class comfort and also guarantees excellent connections to the city center as well as the tourist highlights of the coast.

Airplane
King Shaka International Airport (DUR) is located approximately 35 kilometers north of the terminal and serves as a central hub for guests from the DACH region. Travel usually occurs via Johannesburg or international hubs such as Dubai or Doha, with the onward journey to the port taking about 30 to 45 minutes via the N2 highway or the M4 coastal road.
Transfer & Shuttle
Numerous licensed taxis and ride-sharing services are available at the airport and at hotels for a relaxed journey directly to the ship. In addition, many cruise lines offer coordinated shuttle services on embarkation day, which conveniently bring passengers and their luggage to the terminal and ensure a smooth process.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long flight time from Europe, we recommend arriving at least one day before departure to calmly account for potential flight delays. Accommodations in the nearby Umhlanga district or directly on the Golden Mile are particularly popular, from where the Nelson Mandela Cruise Terminal can be reached within a few minutes' drive.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
