Christiansø, an idyllic island paradise east of Bornholm, is only accessible via ferry from the charming harbor of Gudhjem on Bornholm. The small island does not have its own terminals in the traditional sense for cruise ships, but rather a picturesque harbor that serves as the pier for the Christiansø ferry. Since the island is car-free, the true island experience begins as soon as the ferry arrives.
Car & Ferry
For travelers from the DACH region, traveling to Bornholm with their own car is a popular option thanks to convenient ferry connections. The fastest direct ferry connection to Bornholm starts in Sassnitz (Rügen), Germany, and takes you to Rønne, Bornholm's main town, in around 3 hours and 20 minutes with Bornholmslinjen. Alternatively, you can reach Bornholm from Ystad in southern Sweden by high-speed ferry in about 1 hour and 20 minutes, or use the night ferry from Køge (Denmark), which takes around 5 hours and 30 minutes. From Rønne, you can reach Gudhjem in about 35 minutes via Route 159. Free long-term parking is available above the town, as the harbor area itself offers only limited and paid parking. Signed paths lead from the parking lots down to the ferry pier.
Airplane & Transfer
The fastest way for guests from the DACH region to arrive is by plane. The nearest airport is Bornholm Airport (RNN) near Rønne, about 5 kilometers from the city center. Direct flights to Rønne are mainly offered from Copenhagen (CPH) by DAT, with a flight time of about 35 to 40 minutes. During the summer months, there are also direct connections from Billund (BLL) and Aalborg (AAL). For your journey, this usually means a flight to Copenhagen and a comfortable connecting flight to Bornholm. From Rønne Airport, you can easily reach the city center by BAT bus in about 15 to 20 minutes. Regular buses (BAT service) run from Rønne to Gudhjem, with the journey taking around 45 to 60 minutes, and you can get off directly at the Gudhjem Havn stop near the ferry terminal.
Train & Ferry
Environmentally friendly travel is also possible by train, although this always includes a ferry crossing. From Germany, for example, you can travel by train to Sassnitz ferry port and take the ferry from there to Rønne on Bornholm. Another option is via Sweden: travel by train to Ystad in southern Sweden (for example via Copenhagen and the Öresund Bridge) and take the fast ferry from there to Rønne. After arriving in Rønne, the local bus service (BAT) will take you directly to the ferry port in Gudhjem in about 45 to 60 minutes, where the Christiansø ferry departs. Arriving the day before is recommended for all long-distance travel to ensure you reach the ferry to Christiansø relaxed and on time.
