Returning to the ship

San Salvador in the Bahamas is a rather intimate cruise port, primarily used as a port of call by smaller ships. Direct travel to the terminal from the DACH region for embarkation is complex and always requires several stopovers, making arrival the day before almost inevitable.

Airplane

Arrival in San Salvador (Bahamas) is exclusively by plane. The nearest airport is San Salvador International Airport (ZSA). Direct flights from the DACH region are not available. The most common route leads via international hubs such as Miami (MIA) or Fort Lauderdale (FLL) in Florida, from where connecting flights to Nassau (NAS) on New Providence exist. From Nassau, regional airlines such as Bahamasair offer connections to San Salvador (ZSA). The total flight time can be 12 hours or more depending on the connection.

Transfer & Shuttle

San Salvador International Airport (ZSA) is located close to the island's main resorts and landing stages. Since it is a small island, distances are short. Transfers from the airport to the hotel or potential pier are usually by taxi or via shuttle services of the booked accommodation. There is no public transport in the Western sense. It is recommended to coordinate the transfer in advance with the hotel or the cruise line.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long journey and the need for several transfers, an overnight stay in a pre-cruise hotel on San Salvador is strongly recommended. This allows for a relaxed arrival and avoids stress before embarkation. There are various resorts and smaller hotels on the island, which often also offer transfers from the airport. A pre-overnight stay in Nassau before the onward flight to San Salvador can also be sensible to cushion potential flight delays.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the voyage: For shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
