Returning to the ship

Guy Fawkes Island is not a traditional cruise port with its own infrastructure, but rather an impressive diving and snorkeling area in the Galápagos Archipelago that is visited as part of Galápagos cruises. Arrival is therefore primarily by plane via the Ecuadorian mainland to the islands of Baltra or San Cristóbal, from where embarkation onto the expedition ships or yachts takes place.

Airplane (International)

For travelers from the DACH region, the journey to the Galápagos Islands begins with a long-haul flight to Ecuador. The international destination airports are Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) in Quito or José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport (GYE) in Guayaquil. There are direct flight connections from European cities such as Amsterdam, Paris, or Madrid. The flight time from Europe is usually over 10 hours, which is why an overnight stay on the mainland before the onward flight to the Galápagos Islands is strongly recommended.

Arrival in the Galápagos Islands

The onward flight to the Galápagos Islands takes place from Quito or Guayaquil. The two main airports in the archipelago are Seymour Airport (GPS) on Baltra and San Cristóbal Airport (SCY). The flight time from the Ecuadorian mainland is about 2.5 hours. Before departing for the Galápagos Islands, travelers must apply for a transit control card and pay the national park fee. In addition, luggage is strictly inspected to prevent the introduction of foreign species. After arriving on Baltra, a bus takes passengers to the Itabaca Channel, which is crossed by a short ferry ride, followed by a transfer to Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz. From San Cristóbal Airport, you can easily reach Puerto Baquerizo Moreno in about 5 to 10 minutes by taxi. The tour guide or the ship's crew awaits passengers directly in the arrival area of the Galápagos airports to organize the further transfer to the embarkation point.

Pre-Cruise Hotel for a Relaxed Arrival

Due to the long international flights and the mostly morning domestic flights to the Galápagos Islands, a pre-cruise overnight stay on the Ecuadorian mainland, for example in Quito or Guayaquil, is highly recommended. Many cruise lines and tour operators already include such an overnight stay in their Fly & Cruise packages to ensure a relaxed arrival and provide sufficient time for the required entry formalities for the national park. Alternatively, an overnight stay on one of the main islands like Santa Cruz or San Cristóbal before the actual start of the cruise can also be useful to adjust to the local time zone and explore the surroundings.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the cruise: For shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.

Useful tips

The Cliffs of the Guy Fawkes Islands

The panga ride along the striking volcanic cliffs of the Guy Fawkes Islands starts directly from your ship and offers you convenient access to one of the most impressive natural monuments in the Galápagos region. This excursion is particularly worthwhile for cruise guests, as you can observe majestic sea lions, playful marine iguanas, and the characteristic blue-footed boobies up close in their natural habitat from the boat. Thanks to the expert accompaniment of certified guides, you will enjoy an informative yet relaxed atmosphere amidst this pristine backdrop with a wide view over the Pacific. Ideally, start your excursion directly in the morning to make perfect use of the clear light and the high activity of the wildlife, and then return relaxed to the ship for lunch on board.

Returning to the ship

Since the uninhabited Guy Fawkes Island is a pure nature and snorkeling spot without a fixed terminal, returning to the ship is easily done via organized dinghies or from the nearby logistics hub of Puerto Ayora.

Pangas and Expedition Boats

Right after your activities at the Guy Fawkes snorkeling spot, the ship's own pangas will pick you up and bring you safely back to the gangway. This transfer is perfectly tailored to your schedule and, thanks to the professional crew, guarantees a punctual return on board.

Water Taxis at the Passenger Pier

If you spend free time in the port town of Puerto Ayora, simply use the local water taxis at the main pier, Muelle de Pasajeros. These small boats operate continuously between the shore and the anchorages in the bay, allowing you to return to your ship flexibly and comfortably at any time.

Taxi Pickups in the Center

In the town of Santa Cruz, white pickup taxis are available at almost every street corner as well as at central meeting points such as the waterfront promenade or Parque San Francisco. The drivers know the routes to the passenger pier perfectly and, thanks to the short distances, will bring you back to the starting point of your boat transfer in no time.
