Returning to the ship

San Sebastián, also known as Donostia, is an enchanting cruise port in the Bay of Biscay. Smaller ships often anchor in the picturesque La Concha Bay and bring guests comfortably to the city center via tender boat. Larger cruise ships use the well-connected port of Pasaia, about ten kilometers east of the city, from where shuttles or taxis take you directly into the heart of San Sebastián.

Car

Arrival by car is convenient via the AP-8 toll motorway (Autopista del Cantábrico), which connects San Sebastián directly and allows for a smooth journey from the direction of France (Irún) or Bilbao. There is a low-emission zone in the city center of San Sebastián, so it is advisable to use the numerous secure underground car parks such as Parking Okendo or Boulevard. Alternatively, free Park-and-Ride lots like Illunbe are available on the outskirts, from which you can easily reach the center by public bus.

Train

San Sebastián's central station, the Estación del Norte (also known as Donostia-San Sebastián), is excellently connected to the Spanish and international rail networks. Both national and some international connections operate here, making a relaxed train journey from the DACH region possible. From the station, you can reach the city center and the tender pier comfortably on foot in a few minutes or with a short taxi transfer. For guests whose ship docks in Pasaia, local bus and taxi connections are also available.

Airplane

The nearest airport is San Sebastián Airport (EAS) in Hondarribia, only about 20 kilometers east of the city. It offers connections within Spain and occasionally to European destinations. For more extensive international flight connections, Biarritz Airport (BIQ) in France (approx. 40-50 km away) or the larger Bilbao Airport (BIO) (approx. 75 km away) are ideal. Good transfer options by taxi, private shuttle, or regular bus connections exist from all airports, bringing you directly to the center of San Sebastián. Given the often longer journey from the DACH region, an overnight stay in a pre-cruise hotel in San Sebastián on the day before embarkation is recommended to start your cruise experience relaxed.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times may change at short notice.
