Returning to the ship

Toliara, also known as Tuléar, is a vibrant port city on the southwest coast of Madagascar, ideal for cruises. The port has a primary dock, the Mahavatsy Pier, which is located about two kilometers from the city center, offering good accessibility. Arriving one day before embarkation is recommended due to the long flight times from the DACH region.

Airplane

The most convenient way to arrive from the DACH region is by plane via Toliara Airport (TLE), also known as Aéroport de Tuléar. Direct international flights do not exist, so travel usually goes through Antananarivo International Airport (TNR) with a connecting flight to Toliara. This domestic flight takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes. Toliara Airport (TLE) is about 7.7 kilometers from the port.

Transfer & Shuttle

From Toliara Airport (TLE), you can easily reach the port and city center by taxi or tuk-tuk. The travel time is only about 8 minutes. There are also various private transfer providers offering comfortable transport tailored to your needs from the airport to your accommodation or directly to the cruise terminal.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long journey from the DACH region, an overnight stay in Toliara before embarkation is recommended to start your cruise experience relaxed. In Toliara, you will find various hotels such as the Victory Hotel & Restaurant Tulear, Moringa Hotel, or Hary's Aparthotel, which provide a pleasant base for exploring the city before your cruise. Many of these accommodations allow you to acclimatize before continuing to the port.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally about one hour before the scheduled departure.

The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
