Hainburg an der Donau, a charming medieval town, welcomes river cruise passengers at its centrally located ship pier. This is situated directly on the right bank of the Danube, not far from the historic town center and the Kulturfabrik.

Car

Arriving by car is convenient via the B9 federal highway. Please note the important restriction for vehicles higher than 2.5 meters, as they are not allowed to pass through the historic Wiener Tor in the town center. Free parking options are available at the Donauparkplatz near the pier, among other places. For short-term parking, the town center offers paid zones with an initial half-hour of free parking, followed by tiered rates.

Train

Hainburg an der Donau is excellently connected to the rail network, particularly via the passenger station located directly on the Danube. This is part of the Vienna S-Bahn line S7, which provides direct connections from Vienna, including Vienna International Airport (VIE). The travel time from the airport is only around 37 minutes. From the station, you can reach the picturesque town center and the ship pier in just a few minutes on foot or comfortably by bus.

The nearest international airport is Vienna International Airport (VIE), located about 28 kilometers away. A fast transfer option is provided by the direct S-Bahn connection from the airport to the Hainburg passenger station. The Schlossberg and the Heimenburg

The history-steeped Schlossberg with the imposing ruins of the Heimenburg is easily accessible on foot from the ship pier in about a twenty-minute, steady walk and offers one of the most spectacular panoramic views over the Danube Valley and far into the neighboring country. The extensive fortress complex invites you on a journey of discovery through the Middle Ages and also captivates with its idyllic tranquility in the midst of an untouched natural backdrop. Thanks to the well-paved paths and informative signage, this place is perfectly suited for a cultural tour, while the surrounding meadows offer ideal spots for a short rest. It is best to visit the Schlossberg directly in the morning to take advantage of the cool morning air for the ascent, and combine the way back to the ship with a visit to the historic town gates in the old town.

Returning to the ship

The way back from the historic old town or the Schlossberg to the ship pier at the Donaulände is straightforward and can be easily arranged.

Taxi

Taxis can be found at the main square (Hauptplatz) and in front of the Hainburg an der Donau train station for a quick return to the riverbank. The short ride is particularly relaxed thanks to the direct connection, and the staff at hotels such as the Goldenen Anker will also be happy to order a car for your transfer directly to the ship.

On Foot

The walk from the city center leads through the historic alleys and the Fischertor directly to the waterfront promenade. The paths are clearly signposted, and thanks to the central location, you will reach your ship safely and on time within about 10 to 15 minutes.
