Returning to the ship

The port of Charleston in South Carolina is a popular port of call for cruises on the East Coast of the USA. For guests from the DACH region, travel is usually organized as Fly & Cruise, with a pre-cruise overnight stay recommended due to the overseas flights to ensure a relaxed start to the cruise. The cruise terminal, known as Union Pier Cruise Terminal, is easily accessible.

Airplane

The nearest airport is Charleston International Airport (CHS), which is located approximately 19 to 25 kilometers from the cruise terminal. Although there are no direct flight connections from the DACH region, CHS is well connected via major hubs such as Atlanta (ATL), Charlotte (CLT), or New York (JFK/EWR). The travel time from the airport to the port is approximately 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic.

Transfer & Shuttle

Various transfer options from Charleston International Airport (CHS) to the Union Pier Cruise Terminal are available to you. Taxis are available directly at the airport, and ride-sharing services such as Uber and Lyft also offer convenient rides. Some cruise lines and local providers also offer shuttle services that take you directly from the airport to the ship. It is recommended to check and book transfer options in advance.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long journey from Europe, an overnight stay in Charleston on the day before embarkation is highly recommended. Numerous hotels in Charleston's historic downtown or near the port offer comfortable accommodations. Many of these hotels are only a short taxi ride from the Union Pier Cruise Terminal and allow for a stress-free start to your vacation. Some hotels also offer special "Park & Cruise" deals if you are traveling with a rental car.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for travel to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time – depending on the cruise line and destination – is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the journey: For shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
