Port information & tips for Bonaire
Bonaire impresses as part of the ABC Islands with its relaxed atmosphere and the crystal-clear waters of the protected Marine Park. The capital, Kralendijk, welcomes visitors with brightly colored house facades in the Dutch colonial style and a charming, maritime flair. Located directly at the harbor, the historic Fort Oranje, the informative Terramar Museum, and the lively shopping street Kaya Grandi invite exploration, while Wilhelmina Park is a perfect place to linger. Cruise ships dock at the North Pier or South Pier, both of which are located in the heart of Kralendijk. Thanks to this prime location, guests can easily reach the waterfront promenade, high-quality restaurants, and local boutiques within just a few minutes' walk.
Bonaire's cruise port in the capital Kralendijk impresses with its central location and immediate proximity to Flamingo International Airport. The two main berths, the North Pier and the South Pier, are located directly in the city center and allow for a comfortable embarkation.
Airplane
Flamingo International Airport (BON) is located only four kilometers from the port and is the most important gateway for travelers from the DACH region. Travel usually involves a stopover at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS), from where airlines such as KLM or TUI fly offer direct connections to the island and welcome guests after about ten hours of flight time.
Transfer & Taxi
From the airport, you can reach your ship comfortably in about ten minutes by taxi or via the organized shuttle buses of the cruise lines. The connection is made via the well-developed coastal road Kaya International, which connects the southern runway directly with the terminals in Kralendijk and at the same time offers first views of the turquoise sea.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long flight duration and the time difference, arriving at least one day before departure is advisable to start the vacation relaxed. Numerous hotels and resorts along the coastal road Kaya Gobernador N. Debrot also offer an excellent starting point for first explorations of the underwater world and, thanks to their range of services, often organize direct transfers to the pier.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that with your travel documents you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
