The port of Itilleq in Greenland is an idyllic but very remote destination with no road connections to other towns. Arrival is therefore exclusively by plane or ship, with small expedition ships and private boats often calling at the picturesque village. There are no extensive terminal structures, as the settlement has a small harbor and visitors usually arrive by Zodiac.
Airplane & Helicopter
For travelers from the DACH region, the route to Greenland typically leads via international airports such as Copenhagen (CPH) or Keflavík (KEF) to Nuuk Airport (GOH) or Kangerlussuaq. From there, Air Greenland operates domestic flights to Sisimiut Airport (JHS), the nearest larger airport, approximately 43 to 45 kilometers from Itilleq. The final leg to Itilleq (IATA code: QJG) is completed with a roughly 15-minute helicopter flight by Air Greenland, offering breathtaking views of the Arctic landscape.
Ship & Local Transfers
As an alternative to the helicopter connection, Itilleq is also accessible by boat from Sisimiut in summer (June to September). Private boat charters are an option here, as there are no regular public ferry services directly to Itilleq. The coastal ferry Sarfaq Ittuk operates along the west coast and connects larger towns like Sisimiut and Nuuk, but does not call directly at Itilleq. Within the compact village of Itilleq, the heliport is easily reached on foot in about 5 to 10 minutes from any point in the settlement, as there are no roads or cars.

Due to the long travel times and the very limited infrastructure in Itilleq itself – the village has "minimal tourist facilities" and "no hotels" – a pre-arrival with an overnight stay in a larger city like Nuuk or Sisimiut is strongly recommended. Comfortable hotels and further services are available there, allowing you to start your Greenland adventure relaxed and to handle any flight schedule changes with ease.
