Returning to the ship

Karlskrona, a picturesque UNESCO World Heritage city, spans numerous islands and offers two main areas for passenger ships: the centrally located Handelshamnen for smaller cruise ships and tender boats, and the Verkö Terminal located slightly outside, which is mainly used by ferry companies and occasionally by larger cruise ships. Accordingly, arrival options and the final transfer to the ship vary.

Car

Via the E22 highway, you can easily reach Karlskrona from southern Sweden. From the direction of Malmö, the E22 leads directly to the terminal, while travelers from Göteborg take the E6 to Halmstad and then switch to Route 15 or the E4 heading east to the E22. For short-term parking in the city center, you will find well-signposted areas such as Sparregården and parking garages like Stenbergsgränd. At the Verkö Terminal, free parking is available for one hour, as well as a monitored long-term parking lot, which can be conveniently paid for via the Easy Park or Parkster apps.

Train

Karlskrona is well connected to the Swedish rail network thanks to the centrally located main station (Karlskrona Centralstation) and also offers direct connections from Copenhagen (travel time approx. 3 hours 12 minutes). From the main station, you can reach the Handelshamnen in the city center in just about 5-7 minutes on foot. To reach the Verkö Terminal, which is about 10 km away, you can easily take bus line 6 in about 30 minutes or a taxi in around 10 minutes at a cost of about 170-210 SEK.

Airplane

The nearest airport is Ronneby Airport (RNB), located around 23-30 kilometers north of Karlskrona. From there, comfortable transfer options are available: a shuttle bus (Flygbuss) takes you directly to Karlskrona in about 25-30 minutes for a price of approx. 120 SEK, with departure times coordinated with flight arrivals. Alternatively, a taxi is available, which covers the distance in about 25 minutes for approx. 300 SEK. For travelers from the DACH region, Copenhagen Airport (CPH) is also a good option, from which direct train connections to Karlskrona Centralstation exist.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually provide a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time – depending on the cruise line and destination – is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
