Returning to the ship

Huahine, the "Garden Island" of French Polynesia, is usually accessed by cruise ships via the central harbor in the main village of Fare. Due to its remote location in the Pacific, arrival from the DACH region typically involves a flight and requires careful planning through the Tahiti hub.

Airplane

Arrival from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland is via Tahiti Faa’a International Airport (PPT), which is mostly served via Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Paris. From there, you can reach the regional Huahine-Fare Airport (HUH) with domestic carriers Air Tahiti or Air Moana in around 40 to 50 flight minutes, with the island airport being located only about three kilometers from the harbor in Fare.

Transfer & Local Mobility

From Huahine island airport, you can reach the pier in Fare in less than ten minutes by taxi or the shuttle services provided by the cruise lines. Since larger cruise ships often anchor in the deep waters of the lagoon and bring guests ashore by tender boat, the transfer goes directly to the central pier in the town center, from where all amenities and excursion providers are easily reachable on foot.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long travel time of over 24 hours and the significant time difference, arrival at least two days before embarkation is highly recommended. A stay in one of the resorts on Huahine Nui or Huahine Iti allows for relaxed acclimatization and guarantees a stress-free start to the cruise, while simultaneously allowing you to discover the Marae cultural monuments and the island's untouched nature at your leisure.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents will generally include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and consider that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and postings on board, as berthing and departure times can change at short notice.

Getting around

The port of Huahine is mostly accessed by tender boat and, thanks to its central landing point in the main town of Fare, offers direct access to the island's most important points of interest.

On Foot

Since the tender boats usually dock directly at the pier in the village of Fare, you can reach the main street with its shops, cafes, and the post office in less than five minutes. Additionally, a beautiful public sandy beach is located just a short walk north of the pier and is easily accessible via the shore road.

Le Truck

The traditional and colorful Le Truck buses serve as the most important local means of transport and often stop directly on the main road near the harbor. They offer an affordable and authentic way to visit the island's various villages while getting to know everyday Polynesian life.

Taxi and Private Transfers

Official taxis usually wait directly at the pier or near the supermarket in Fare to take visitors to archaeological sites or remote beaches. These drivers often offer private island tours as well, allowing you to discover sights such as the sacred eels of Faie or the historical temple complexes in particular comfort.

Highlights & Districts

To experience the authentic magic of Huahine at its best, we recommend a combination of the relaxed flair of the main town, Fare, and exploring the history-steeped cultural sites as well as the dreamlike lagoon beaches.

The charming main village directly at the harbor invites you to take a relaxed stroll with its small boutiques and cozy waterfront cafes, and also offers the ideal setting to experience the original Polynesian way of life first-hand.

Marae Maeva & the Fish Traps

Useful tips

Avea Bay

The picturesque Avea Bay in the south of Huahine Iti is easily accessible in about 25 minutes by taxi or rental car and offers one of the most beautiful, natural sandy beaches in the entire Society Islands. Thanks to its crystal-clear, shallow water and fine white sand, this bay is ideal for relaxing hours under palm trees as well as first-class snorkeling in the coral-rich lagoons. Locally, the charming Hotel Relais Mahana also offers excellent infrastructure with a restaurant directly on the water, where you can enjoy Polynesian specialties and cool refreshments in an authentic atmosphere. It is best to visit the bay in the morning to experience the tranquility of the island to the fullest, and plan your return trip to the harbor in Fare approximately two hours before departure to end the panoramic tour along the coastal road in a relaxed manner.

Returning to the ship

The journey back to the port in Fare is very relaxed and safe thanks to the manageable size of the island's capital. Plan a time buffer for the return journey from excursion destinations in the south of the island and enjoy a punctual return to the pier.

Taxis and Hotel Transfers

Taxis are available in the center of Fare, particularly at the taxi stand near the Super U supermarket and directly at the port area. In addition, larger hotel complexes such as the Maitai Lapita Village are happy to organize a transfer for you, ensuring you return to the pier punctually and comfortably.

Water Taxis and Tender Boats

Since cruise ships in the Huahine lagoon usually lie at anchor, the ship's own tender boats operate at high frequency between the Quai de Fare and your ship. The landing stage is centrally located in the village and can be reached quickly and safely thanks to the good organization of the local port staff.

On Foot

From the center of Fare, you can easily reach the port in a few minutes via the flat coastal road. The path is easy to find and leads directly along the coast, so you always have perfect orientation to the ship thanks to the clear structure of the village.
