Liège, the charming "Cité Ardente" on the Meuse, is a major port of call for river cruises and, thanks to its central location in Wallonia, is easily accessible from the DACH region. The moorings for river cruises are mostly located along the Meuse and often provide convenient access to the lively city center.

Car

Thanks to excellent motorway connections, you can arrive in Liège relaxed. The city is strategically located at the crossroads of many important Belgian motorways, including the E25 from Luxembourg and the Netherlands, the E40 from Germany and the North Sea, and the E42 from France. For travel to the city center, two cost-effective Park+Ride facilities are available: P+R Sclessin to the south (accessible via E42/E25) and P+R Bressoux to the east (directly via E25). From there, you can easily reach the center by tram. Various parking garages in the city area, such as those from Interparking or bookable via Parclick, also offer short and long-term parking options. Around 40 parking spaces are available near the main mooring at Île Monsin.

Train

Liège-Guillemins main station (Gare de Liège-Guillemins) is an impressive architectural monument and a central hub in the European high-speed network. It is served by Thalys and ICE trains and offers direct connections from German cities such as Cologne and Frankfurt, as well as from the Netherlands and other Belgian metropolises. From Liège-Guillemins station, you can reach the historic center in about 20 minutes on foot. Alternatively, taxis are available to take you to the city center for around €10–12, or you can use the new tram line that connects the station with the historic center and other important points.

Airplane

The nearest airport is Liège Airport (LGG), located only about 8 to 9 kilometers from the city center. From there, bus lines 53 and 57 run to the center, and taxis are also available. Another good option is Brussels Airport (BRU), which is around 81.7 kilometers away. Hourly train connections run from Brussels-Zaventem to Liège-Guillemins station with a travel time of about 55 minutes. Cologne/Bonn Airport (CGN) is also worth considering at around 112.7 kilometers away. For onward travel by plane, it is recommended to arrive in Liège one day before the cruise and book a pre-cruise hotel for a relaxed embarkation.

Navette Fluviale

The Navette Fluviale offers a wonderful way to discover the city from the water. These shuttle boats connect important stations such as the center, the Outremeuse district, and the modern Liège-Guillemins railway station in a very pleasant way.

Taxi

Official taxis are available at the city's main transport hubs and will take you quickly to your desired destinations. In addition, vehicles can easily be ordered in advance or via an app so that you can also reach higher-situated sights such as the Citadel comfortably and directly.

The Montagne de Bueren and the Coteaux de la Citadelle

The impressive staircase of the Montagne de Bueren is easily reachable from the cruise terminal at Quai de la Goffe in just a few minutes on foot and offers a spectacular panoramic view over the entire city and the Meuse Valley after the climb. The adjacent walking paths of the Coteaux de la Citadelle also lead through idyllic terraced gardens and historic orchards, making this place perfect for a relaxing break in the greenery directly above the city center. Thanks to the immediate proximity to the historic Hors-Château district, you will find numerous cozy cafés at the foot of the stairs for a traditional Liège waffle and also enjoy an excellent connection back to the ship. Ideally, plan your visit for the morning to take advantage of the quiet atmosphere and the best photo light, so that you can return to the ship early in the afternoon, relaxed and in time for departure.

Returning to the ship

Returning to your ship at the central moorings on the Meuse is very convenient and safe thanks to the short distances and the clear city structure.

Navette Fluviale (Water Bus)

The public water bus offers a relaxed return journey and stops at important stations such as the Centre-Ville, right near the Quai de la Goffe landing stage. The boats operate regularly during the summer months and provide a beautiful view of the city skyline as you return to the port on time.

Taxi

Taxis can be found at central locations such as Place Saint-Lambert and at the Liège-Guillemins railway station, as well as in front of larger hotels in the city center. The journey to the port is short and takes you directly to the quay; additionally, you can easily have transport ordered from any café or restaurant for a punctual return journey.

On Foot

From the historical center and the prominent Curtius Museum, you can reach the landing stages at Quai de Maestricht or Quai de la Goffe in just a few minutes on foot. The path leads directly along the lively riverfront promenade and is easy and safe to find thanks to the clear line of sight to the river and the ships.
