The historic center at Stephansplatz

Stephansplatz is the magnificent heart of Vienna and can be easily reached from the cruise port at Handelskai in about ten minutes thanks to the direct connection to the U1 subway line. A trip here is particularly worthwhile to marvel at the imposing Stephansdom and to enjoy the famous Viennese flair in traditional coffee houses such as the nearby Café Diglas in the surrounding alleys. The excellent infrastructure with numerous cafés, museums, and first-class shops on the Graben makes this location ideal for a relaxed stroll full of culture and enjoyment. Use the early morning hours to visit the cathedral to appreciate the special atmosphere before the large crowds of visitors arrive, and return comfortably by subway to the ship at least one hour before boarding.

Returning to the ship

The way back to the Wiener Schifffahrtszentrum at Handelskai is safe and time-efficient thanks to the excellent connection to the public transport network and central taxi ranks.

Public Transport (Subway)

The red subway line U1 connects the city center directly with the port and takes you in just a few minutes from the Stephansplatz or Karlsplatz stations to the Vorgartenstraße stop. From there, you can enjoy a comfortable five to ten-minute walk to the ship area at the Reichsbrücke, using the good signage for orientation.

Taxi

Numerous taxis are available 24/7 at central locations such as Albertinaplatz behind the State Opera or at Stephansplatz. Due to the short distance to Handelskai, you will reach your ship quickly and enjoy the service of a direct ride right to the departure terminal or your berthing spot.

Orientation and On Foot

Within the port area on the banks of the Danube, the paths are flat and spacious, making the final section of your return journey very pleasant. A prominent landmark is the far-visible Franz-von-Assisi-Kirche at Mexikoplatz, which is located directly opposite the piers and points the way to your ship.
