Attractions on your Italy cruise

Italy offers countless attractions that you can experience during a Mediterranean cruise in one of the following harbours:

Rome / Civitavecchia

If you visit Italy, you should not miss the capital Rome. With about 3 million inhabitants, it is the largest city in the country. Rome is especially popular because of the multitude of historical buildings and museums and not least because the old town, St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican City are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

During a Rome cruise you have plenty of time to explore the Eternal City. Whether starting from Rome, heading for Civitavecchia (the cruise port of Rome) as a stopover or the eternal city is the destination port of your journey: The historic yet modern city will enchant you!

Visit the Coliseum, the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. Fans of the thriller Illuminati by Dan Brown can visit the locations here, which can also be seen in the film of the same name.

Rome also has plenty of parks and facilities worth seeing - including the park at the Caracalla spas and the gardens of Villa Borghese. With Lazio Rome and AS Roma there are two football clubs in the city. --> Rome cruises

Venice

Venice is a lagoon city with history in northeast Italy. The numerous bridges, narrow streets and historic buildings make up the flair of this popular destination.

Stroll over St. Mark's Square, admire the Grand Canal, take a boat trip on a vaporetto or take a gondola through the narrow waterways. Walk over the Bridge of Sighs, which connects the former state prisons on the ground floor with the Doge's Palace, and visit the Rialto Bridge - Venice has so much to offer!

If you have a few days in Venice before or after your cruise, it is best to visit the island of Murano. Famous for their glass art you will find small shops at every corner to enjoy a browse.

You want to relax a little on the beach? This is also possible in Venice - take one of the vaporetti to the ferry terminal Lido (SME) - from here you can walk to the beach of the lagoon city in about 10 minutes. On the way, treat yourself to a delicious ice cream in one of the cafés that line the street. --> Venice cruises

Genoa

Genoa is located in the western Mediterranean and is a city almost exclusively facing the sea. The medieval old town is one of the largest in Europe. Genoa has several castles, a lighthouse and nature reserves (for example, the Beigua Natural Park), from which you can catch a breathtaking view. --> Genoa cruises

Livorno

Livorno is a city on the western Mediterranean and belongs to the region of Tuscany. The moat Fosso Reale encloses the old town. The district of Venezia Nuova is reminiscent of the bridges and canals of the lagoon city in northeastern Italy. Livorno has two fortresses, the Fortezza Vecchia ("Old Fortress") and the Fortezza Nuova ("New Fortress"). Stroll along the black and white tiled Terrazza Mascagni and enjoy the sea view. If you start your cruise from Livorno or its your destination port, then you are in Florence. --> Livorno cruises

Naples

Naples is the third largest city in Italy. In the immediate vicinity you will find the Amalfi Coast and the islands of Ischia and Capri, which you can visit during your trip.

In Naples you can visit a total of six fortresses and palaces. Near the town is the still active volcano Vesuvius. A culinary must is the enjoyment of an original Neapolitan pizza! --> Naples cruises

Best travel time for a cruise to Italy

Due to the Mediterranean climate, Italy is a popular destination all year round. The best travel time for your Italy cruise is therefore dependent on what you would like to experience locally. From December to March, the average temperature is 16 ° C. These months are particularly suitable for classic city trips and romantic trips. From June to September you can expect temperatures of up to 31 ° C and hardly any rainy days. This time is particularly suitable for Summer activities such as swimming and surfing.

Popular cruise lines

Italy cruises are perfect to travel with the Italian cruise lines Costa and MSC Cruises. Here you will experience the Italian flair as there are many Italians on board. AIDA Cruises and TUI Cruises are on the Mediterranean Sea and are popular choices. With NCL you can enjoy the all inclusive package and with P & O Cruises you can travel in the British flair.
