Landmarks that you can explore during your Bahamas cruise

More than 700 islands, many of them uninhabited, belong to the unique archipelago of the Bahamas, located in the Atlantic Ocean south of Florida and north of Cuba. As an archipelago in the Caribbean, the Bahamas enjoy great popularity and are especially popular during a Caribbean cruise.

Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, is located on the island of New Providence and has about 25,000 inhabitants. Many colonial houses line the streets. In some places you can still guess what it was like when pirates and buccaneers drove their nuisance on the islands, they brought them partially in their power. The Pirate Museum gives an insight into the wild life of the thieves of the seas and is certainly not only interesting for children. Perched above the capital is Fort Fincastle. A visit there is worthwhile for all historically interested cruise tourists.

Today's Nassau landmark is the Queen's Staircase . Climb up the 65 steps from the city centre and feel how the queen once must have felt. On the island of Paradise Island you will experience an impressive tour through the water during the exciting tour "The Dig". Passing by the ruins, through which fish and all kinds of sea creatures swim. It is a bit of a belief here that you landed in the sunken Atlantis.

Versailles Gardens lives up to its name. The picturesque park with its plants and flowers creates a romantic atmosphere that only a sunset over the sea can beat. But of course, the Bahamas also offer a beautiful beach experience . Palm trees shade the white, fine sandy beaches and offer great photo opportunities. Treat yourself to a break at Cable Beach, where, with a bit of luck, you can visit one of the traditional straw markets. You will be amazed how diverse the straw art of the islanders is. On Paradise Island, on the other hand, Cabbage Beach is synonymous with extensive beach enjoyment with fantastic views of the open sea.

Off the beaten track, you will reach Crooked Island . Along the coast, the coral reefs are a paradise for snorkelers and divers. In the mangrove forests nature lovers can discover many colourful birds and butterflies and with a little luck you will also see dolphins and turtles.

What is typical of the Bahamas?

Rich in vitamins and characterized by natural colours, the kitchen of the Bahamas presents itself. Freshly squeezed juices of papayas, pineapple, mangoes or other fruits of the islands can be found here on street corners, in beach bars or in the restaurant. Fans of fish dishes feel in paradise in the Bahamas. Here you can order the island-typical Crayfish , but also red snapper steak or lobster and one thing is guaranteed: You will not get a fresher culinary experience!

African influences from the time of the buccaneers and pirates you will experience when listening to classical music of the Bahamas . When Junkanoo the instruments of the locals the joy of life can be heard.

Popular shipping companies for Bahamas cruises

Many cruise lines offer cruises to the Bahamas. So you can choose the ships according to your wishes and preferences.

Embark on board AIDA Cruises, experience a club holiday in a floating hotel. Varied entertainment programs for the whole family and plenty of excursion options on shore leave provide holiday joy in all ages.

With MSC Cruises, your journey becomes a casual and Mediterranean-inspired experience. Italian joie de vivre is paired with culinary delights and the entertainment programs are designed so that the holiday season almost vanishes.

At Carnival Cruise Line, so-called funships are mainly available to offer cruises according to their taste to the mainly young crowd. Excellent childcare, 24/7 entertainment comparable to a club holiday in the hotel and high quality cuisine are available for trips that start almost exclusively from American ports.

When is the best time to travel?

For your cruise to the Bahamas is expected throughout the year with many hours of sunshine. The temperatures are always on average always between 26 ° Celsius and 29 ° Celsius. A pleasantly warm wind blows your nose when you spend the balmy nights on the deck of your cruise giant to gaze at the starry sky and soak up the fine sea air. Only in the months of September and October, it can be a bit stormy now and then, because there is hurricane season in the Caribbean. But do not worry: your captain knows his way around and knows how to navigate the storms around in order to give you maximum safety on board.

Access to the Bahamas

With stopovers in the US, you will arrive in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas. But since most of the Bahamas cruises start in Miami anyway, the direct flight to the metropolis of Florida is worthwhile . From the airport, you can either hire a car through the Mac Arthur Causeway or through the tunnel that connects the city centre with Dodge Island. Since you are in Miami in the largest cruise port in the world, it is hardly surprising that there are seven terminals in total. The landing stage of your cruise ship can be found in your travel documents. Directly from Miami Airport you can also take a taxi to the Cruise Centre. This is certainly more relaxed than driving, and the prices are also low.
