Leverinho is a picturesque docking point on the banks of the Douro and offers travelers an excellent introduction to the fascinating river landscape of northern Portugal. Leverinho, idyllically situated on the picturesque banks of the Douro, is an enchanting anchor point for river cruises in Portugal. As the gateway to the famous Douro Valley, close to the vibrant city of Porto, it serves as an ideal starting point for exploring the wine region and its impressive landscapes. Since this is a pier for river cruise ships and not an ocean port, arrival and transfers typically take place via Porto.

Airplane

The nearest international airport is Porto Airport (Francisco Sá Carneiro, OPO), which is located about 20 to 30 kilometers from Leverinho and offers direct flights from many DACH cities. Thanks to the good connections, you can easily reach the port area by taxi or rental car. Arriving the day before is particularly recommended for long flight times to start your cruise experience in a relaxed manner.

Train

Porto's main train station, Campanhã, is an important railway hub and offers connections from all over Portugal. From there, you can easily reach Leverinho and the various piers on the Douro by taxi or local bus connections. The journey from the station to Porto city center, from where the river piers are easily accessible, usually takes about ten to fifteen minutes.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

For a relaxed embarkation and to discover the charming city of Porto before the start of your river cruise, an overnight stay in a hotel in Porto is highly recommended. Many hotels in the city center or along the Douro not only offer a pleasant stay but are also excellently connected to the transfer routes to the ship piers, guaranteeing a seamless start to your journey.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the journey: For shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
