Port information & tips for Horta (Faial Island, Azores)

Horta on the island of Faial is the cosmopolitan heart of the Azores and a legendary port of call for Atlantic crossers from all over the world. Located in the heart of the eponymous city and directly on the picturesque marina, the terminal is easily accessible in a relaxed manner thanks to short distances and excellent connections to the nearby Horta Airport.

Airplane

Arrival from the DACH region typically takes place by plane via Lisbon (LIS) with direct connections to Horta Airport (HOR) or with stopovers on other Azorean islands such as São Miguel (PDL) or Terceira (TER). Horta Airport (HOR) is located only about 9 to 13 kilometers from the cruise port. Given the usually long flight times from Central Europe, a relaxed pre-night flight is recommended to start your cruise refreshed.

Transfer to the Port

From Horta Airport (HOR), you can reach the cruise terminal comfortably and quickly. A taxi ride takes only about 9 to 10 minutes and costs approximately 16 to 21 Euro. Alternatively, public buses are available, which run several times a day and take you to the city center in about 14 to 17 minutes, placing you in the immediate vicinity of the port. Additionally, various providers offer private transfers and shuttle services for a particularly comfortable direct journey.

Pre-Cruise Stay in Horta

A pre-cruise stay in Horta is ideal for a stress-free start to your journey. The charming city offers a selection of hotels, many of them in direct proximity to the port and the famous marina. This allows you to enjoy the maritime atmosphere and explore sights such as Peter Café Sport before relaxedly boarding your ship. Parking options are also available directly in the port area should you wish to explore the island with a rental car.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your arrival at the port and consider that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
