Zaltbommel is a charming fortified town on the banks of the Waal and a brilliant highlight in the Dutch province of Gelderland. The historic setting impresses with an inviting atmosphere of cobblestone streets, picturesque gabled houses, and an idyllic location directly on the river. Among the most significant sights are the imposing Sint-Maartenskerk with its famous tower, the magnificent Stadskasteel Zaltbommel, and the extensive green city fortifications. River cruise ships dock directly at the Passagiersschipsteiger on the central Waalkade, allowing guests to reach the heart of the old town in just a few minutes walk thanks to the excellent location and explore the city immediately.

Zaltbommel, a charming town on the Waal, is an easily accessible starting point for river cruises and is conveniently reachable for guests from the DACH region thanks to excellent transport links. The port of Zaltbommel, primarily a river port, does not have extensive terminal buildings but generally uses central mooring points on the river.

Car

Zaltbommel is excellently connected to the Dutch motorway network. You can reach the port directly via the A2 motorway, also known as the E25, which connects major cities such as Amsterdam, Utrecht, 's-Hertogenbosch, and Eindhoven. Take exit 17 to Zaltbommel. Public parking is available locally, and some nearby hotels also offer parking for the duration of your trip, allowing for a relaxed arrival in your own car.

Train

Zaltbommel station is an important regional hub and is located on the railway line between Utrecht and 's-Hertogenbosch. Travelers from the DACH region can reach Zaltbommel easily with Intercity connections, often with a change at Utrecht Centraal main station. From the station, the river port on the Waal can be reached in a short time, either by a pleasant walk or a quick taxi ride.

Airplane

For arrival by plane, Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) and Eindhoven Airport (EIN) are suitable options. Eindhoven Airport is the closest at around 40.5 kilometers, while Amsterdam Schiphol is approximately 64.5 kilometers away. From Schiphol Airport, there is a direct train connection to Zaltbommel (with a change in Utrecht Centraal), which takes about 1 hour and 24 minutes and provides a comfortable journey. Alternatively, you can book a private transfer from both airports to take you directly and relaxed to the embarkation point.
