Lemmer is the charming gateway to the Dutch province of Friesland and delights as a traditional fishing village directly on the shores of the IJsselmeer. Lemmer, the charming water sports center on the IJsselmeer and gateway to the Frisian Lakes, is easily accessible and serves as a popular starting point for river cruises, sailing trips, and voyages on traditional flat-bottomed boats. The various berths and marinas are located close to the center and are usually just a few minutes' walk from the idyllic town center.

Car

Thanks to its direct connection to the A6 motorway, you can reach Lemmer comfortably. From the north, the route takes you via the A7 and A6 via Heerenveen/Joure, while from the south, you use the A50 and A6 via Emmeloord. For navigation to the harbor, Vuurtorenweg in 8531 HJ Lemmer serves as a landmark. Free long-term parking is available at locations including the ice rink, opposite the Plattedijk beach, or at Lijnbaan. Lemmer Marina also offers free parking on its premises. Loading and unloading luggage is usually possible directly at the berths before you park your vehicle in one of the designated parking spaces.

Train

Lemmer does not have its own train station but is well integrated into the public transport network. The nearest relevant station is Heerenveen, about 18 kilometers away. From there, you can easily reach the port of Lemmer by bus: QBuzz line 41 runs to the Pampusstraat stop, from where it is approximately a 10-minute walk to the terminal. Alternatively, the QLiner 315 connects Heerenveen with the Lemmer bus stop. Trains from Zwolle also provide half-hourly connections to buses to Lemmer.

Airplane

For international arrivals, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) is the primary choice, located about 87 to 88 kilometers from Lemmer. From Schiphol, take the train to Heerenveen (approx. 1 hour 58 minutes travel time) and from there continue by bus or taxi to Lemmer. A closer regional option is Groningen Airport Eelde (GRQ), approximately 65 kilometers away. From Groningen, there are bus connections to Lemmer with a travel time of about 2 hours and 19 minutes. For a relaxed start to your cruise vacation, especially for longer flights, an arrival the day before with an overnight stay in one of the local hotels, such as Hotel Iselmar, is recommended.
