Port information & tips for Viviers

Viviers is a fascinating jewel on the right bank of the Rhône and enchants visitors as a living open-air museum in the heart of the Ardèche. The medieval backdrop impresses with its sublime location on a rocky plateau and offers an incomparable atmosphere thanks to winding alleys, magnificent Renaissance facades, and an almost untouched old town. Impressive highlights include the majestic Cathédrale Saint-Vincent and the splendid Renaissance house Maison des Chevaliers with its artistic decorations. River cruise ships dock directly at the Quai de la Navigation, from where guests can easily reach the historic city center in a short walk of about ten minutes and immerse themselves in the quiet, French way of life.

The picturesque river port of Viviers is located in the heart of the Rhône Valley in the French département of Ardèche and is a popular destination for river cruises through Southern France. Ships usually dock directly at the central Quai du Rhône, from where the historic old town is easily accessible on foot thanks to the short distances.

Car

Viviers is excellently connected via the A7 motorway, the central north-south axis of France, and is easily reachable from the DACH region. Use the Montélimar-Nord or Montélimar-Sud exits to reach the city center and the piers in about 15 to 20 minutes, with public parking for short- and long-term parkers available near the port.

Train

The nearest train station, Montélimar, is only 10 kilometers away and offers regular regional connections as well as access to the TGV network. Thanks to short taxi rides of around 15 minutes, you can get from the station directly to the quay; additionally, the Valence TGV long-distance station enables a fast journey from Switzerland or Germany via a change in Lyon.

Airplane

For travel from the DACH region, the airports of Lyon-Saint Exupéry (LYS) and Marseille Provence (MRS) are ideal, located around 140 to 160 kilometers from the port. From both airports, you can easily reach Viviers with a rental car or a pre-booked shuttle transfer in about 90 to 120 minutes of driving time through the idyllic landscape of Provence.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will typically receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and consider that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
