Port information & tips for Port Vendres

Port-Vendres is a charming jewel on the French Côte Vermeille and stands out as one of the few deep natural harbors in the region due to its prime location near the Spanish border. The atmosphere is characterized by authentic fishing operations, colorful facades, and the surrounding gentle vineyards of the Pyrenees foothills. Cultural highlights include the historic Obélisque de Port-Vendres and the picturesque neighboring town of Collioure, which is considered the birthplace of Fauvism and can be reached quickly thanks to short distances. Cruise ships dock at Quai Pierre Forgas, which is located right in the heart of the town and offers an ideal starting point for exploring the center and the maritime promenade easily on foot.

As a charming fishing village on the Côte Vermeille, Port Vendres offers a picturesque backdrop for cruises and is easily accessible thanks to its central location. Cruise ships often dock directly in the heart of the town, allowing for convenient exploration.

Car

Arriving by car is comfortable thanks to good highway connections. Coming from the north, follow the A9 (Autoroute du Soleil) to Perpignan and then take the D914, which leads directly to Port Vendres. Parking facilities are available near the center, including the Obelisk parking lot (2-minute walk) and the harbor parking lot (8-minute walk), ensuring straightforward accommodation for your vehicle.

Train

The Port-Vendres-Ville station is part of the Narbonne–Portbou railway line and allows for a convenient arrival by train. From Perpignan, you can reach Port Vendres in only about 23 minutes by direct train. Although there is no ticket counter at Port-Vendres station itself, onward travel from Perpignan main station is easy thanks to regular connections. The harbor is within walking distance of the station.

Airplane

The nearest airport is Perpignan-Rivesaltes (PGF), approximately 31 to 35 kilometers from Port Vendres. From there, you can efficiently reach Perpignan station by bus (approx. 20 minutes travel time) and then take the train directly to Port Vendres (approx. 30 minutes). Alternatively, taxi services and private transfers are available, allowing for a direct trip to the harbor. For long-haul flights from the DACH region, we recommend arriving the day before to start your cruise experience relaxed.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the latest announcements and the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
