Port information & tips for Le Pouzin

Le Pouzin is an idyllic stop on the banks of the Rhône and is considered the charming gateway to the picturesque Ardèche region in southern France. The town captivates with its relaxed atmosphere and its reputation as a local capital of gastronomy, nestled in a gentle river landscape. Cultural highlights include the historic bridge Pont Romain, as well as the nearby Abbey of Cruas and the majestic Château de Rochemaure. At the same time, the ViaRhôna cycle path invites active exploration along the water. Cruise ships dock directly at the central Quai de la Marine, from where the town center, with its cozy cafés and regional specialties, is easily and barrier-free accessible in just a few minutes' walk.

Le Pouzin is a charming river cruise port on the Rhône in the heart of the Ardèche, which is easily accessible thanks to its convenient location. Dedicated terminals, such as those known from ocean cruises, do not exist here; the berths for river cruise ships are usually located directly on the riverbank.

Car

Le Pouzin is well connected via the D104 main road, which runs through the region. The A7 motorway, one of France's main traffic arteries, runs in the immediate vicinity and connects the town to Valence (approx. 25 km) to the north and Montélimar (approx. 25 km) to the south. Various free parking options are available directly in Le Pouzin, including the "Parking la Garenne" as well as a car park at the high school directly on the riverbank on the D104, ideal for a relaxing break.

Train

The nearest major railway station for travelers from the DACH region is the Valence TGV station (Gare de Valence TGV), located about 25 kilometers from Le Pouzin. From there, convenient connections are available by bus (e.g., bus lines serving Le Pouzin via the "Place Maréchal Leclerc" stop) or taxi to get directly to the pier in Le Pouzin.

Airplane

For international guests, Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport (LYS) and Marseille Provence Airport (MRS) are the main arrival points. Lyon (LYS) is located about 110 to 130 kilometers north of Le Pouzin, while Marseille (MRS) is situated around 150 kilometers to the south. Transfers by taxi or pre-arranged shuttles from both airports to the port are recommended to make the roughly 1.5- to 3-hour journey comfortable. Given the distance, arriving the day before with an overnight stay in Lyon or Valence is recommended to start the river cruise in a relaxed manner.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Please plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the cruise: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
