Boulogne-sur-Mer is the maritime gateway to the Opal Coast and France's most important fishing port in the Pas-de-Calais département. The charming port city impresses with a fascinating mix of historic architecture in the fortified upper town and the lively bustle along the quays. Absolute highlights include Nausicaá, Europe's largest aquarium, as well as the impressive Basilica of Notre-Dame with its extensive crypt and the medieval town center including the castle museum. Cruise ships usually dock at the centrally located Quai de l’Europe, from where the city center and the main sights can be reached in about 15 to 20 minutes on foot or easily by shuttle thanks to the excellent location.

Boulogne-sur-Mer, a charming port town on the French Opal Coast, is easily accessible thanks to its favorable location and good transport links. Cruise ships dock here at the Quai de l'Europe, a well-organized terminal that enables smooth embarkation and disembarkation and also offers a shuttle service to the city center.

Car

The port of Boulogne-sur-Mer is excellently integrated into the French trunk road network and is easily accessible via the A16 motorway. Travelers coming from Paris, Calais, or Rouen take exit 29, while the A26 from Reims leads directly to the port via the N42. Please note that there are no long-term parking spaces available for cruise passengers directly in the port area, only areas for short-term drop-off and pick-up. For longer stays, however, you will find central public parking garages in the city, such as the Q-Park facilities "Nausicaa", "Lumière", or "Saint Louis", which can also be booked online and from which the port is easily accessible.

Train

The nearest and most relevant train station is Boulogne-Ville, centrally located in Boulogne-sur-Mer. This station offers regular direct connections to Paris Gare du Nord (travel time approx. 2.5 hours), Calais, and Lille, among others. From Boulogne-Ville station, you can easily and quickly reach the cruise terminal, which is located about 2 kilometers away in the city center, by taxi or local transport.

Airplane

For international guests from the DACH region, larger airports with good train connections are available. Lille Airport (LIL) is a good option for regional flights, while Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) serves as a major international hub with excellent connections worldwide. Direct train connections to Boulogne-Ville are available from Paris Gare du Nord, which can be reached directly from Charles de Gaulle Airport. The smaller Le Touquet-Côte d'Opale Airport (LTQ) is only about 23 kilometers away, as is Calais Marck Airport (CQF) at around 36 kilometers away, both of which are suitable for private transfers or rental cars. For a relaxed start to your journey, an overnight stay in Boulogne-sur-Mer or a nearby town on the day before embarkation is recommended for longer journeys.
