Port information & tips for Bonifacio (Corsica)

Bonifacio is one of the most spectacular harbor towns in the Mediterranean, perched majestically on snow-white limestone cliffs at the southern tip of Corsica. The medieval fortress town impresses with its dramatic location above the turquoise sea and exudes an incomparable Mediterranean charm thanks to its narrow streets and the historical Citadel. Special highlights include the imposing Escalier du Roi d'Aragon, carved directly into the rock, and the atmospheric maritime cemetery Cimetière Marin. Smaller cruise ships use the central berth at Quai Comparetti in the Port de Plaisance, while larger ships anchor off the coast. From the harbor, visitors directly reach the lively lower town and can easily access the historical upper town on foot or by the regular tourist train.

Bonifacio on Corsica welcomes its cruise guests in one of the most picturesque natural harbors in the Mediterranean. Ships usually anchor in the protected fjord, from where passengers are conveniently brought to the marina in the lower town by tender boats. The historic upper town sits majestically on the impressive limestone cliffs and can be reached from the marina on foot or with a charming tourist train. For a relaxed embarkation, especially after longer journeys from the DACH region, arriving a day in advance is recommended.

Airplane

Figari-Sud Corse Airport (FSC) is the nearest airport and is located only around 20 to 22 kilometers from Bonifacio. Numerous airlines offer direct flights or convenient connections from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland to Corsica, including to Figari. Alternatively, you can fly into Ajaccio (AJA) or Bastia (BIA) airports, which are however much further away and require longer transfer times.

Transfer & Shuttle

From Figari Airport (FSC), you can reach Bonifacio comfortably by taxi or private transfer in about 25 to 28 minutes. The cost for a taxi ride is around 48 € for up to four people. There are also bus connections that have a travel time of about 20 to 30 minutes, but often require a short taxi transfer to the bus station in Figari. Some private transfer providers are also available to ensure a smooth onward journey.

Auto & Parking

Bonifacio is well connected within Corsica via the T40 (from the direction of Ajaccio) and T10 (from the direction of Bastia) main roads. Several paid parking lots are available at the harbor and near the town (P1, P2, P3, P5). Especially in high season, arriving early is advisable as the parking spaces fill up quickly. A practical alternative is the Les Valli parking lot, about 1.5 kilometers outside the center, which offers a free shuttle bus to the marina during the high season (June to mid-September). Parking fees vary, but are around 20 € per day for parking lots near the center and about 5 to 10 € per day for parking lots on the outskirts. Payment is usually made conveniently by credit card at the exit terminals.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as berthing and departure times can change at short notice.
