Port information & tips for Mystery Island (Inyeug)
Mystery Island is a pristine jewel in the south of Vanuatu and is considered one of the most exclusive natural paradises in the South Pacific. The uninhabited island impresses with crystal-clear water, white powdery sand, and a relaxed atmosphere that invites you to dream. Highlights include snorkeling in the colorful Mystery Island Marine Reserve, visiting the charming local market, and exploring the culturally significant Cannibal Pots. Since there is no deep-water port, guests reach the island via tender boats at the central Mystery Island Jetty, from where all attractions and the paradise beaches are easily accessible within a few minutes' walk.
Mystery Island is an uninhabited natural paradise in southern Vanuatu and is visited as an exclusive tender port by cruise ships. Since the island has no conventional pier for large ships, access is directly via the water using the ship's own boats to the central landing jetty on the beach.
Airplane
Arrival from the DACH region typically takes place via Bauerfield International Airport (VLI) in Port Vila with stopovers in Sydney or Brisbane. From Vanuatu's capital, you can reach Inyeug Airport (MYY) directly on the island comfortably with Air Vanuatu's regional aircraft, which take about 40 minutes for the short scenic flight.
Cruise & Tender
Most visitors reach Mystery Island as part of a South Pacific cruise from the Australian ports of Sydney or Brisbane and enjoy the arrival by sea. Since the ships lie at anchor off the coral island, you will use the cruise lines' comfortable tender boats for the transfer to the shore, which will bring you directly to the fine sandy beach in just a few minutes.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
A stay at a resort in Port Vila or on the inhabited neighboring island of Aneityum is recommended for a relaxed arrival in this remote region. Thanks to a pre-cruise overnight stay, you can comfortably compensate for the time difference to the DACH region and start your stay on the idyllic island optimally acclimatized.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time – depending on the cruise line and destination area – is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
