The island of Uoleva in Tonga's Haʻapai Archipelago is considered one of the last untouched paradises in the South Pacific and impresses with its complete seclusion. Airplane (International Arrival)
Arrival from the DACH region is primarily via long-haul flight to Fua'amotu International Airport (TBU) on Tongatapu, Tonga's main island. International connections exist via hubs such as Auckland (New Zealand), Sydney (Australia), or Nadi (Fiji). Early booking and generous time planning for potential layovers are recommended for a relaxed journey.
Domestic Flight & Local Transfer
From Fua'amotu International Airport (TBU), you take a domestic flight with Lulutai Airlines to Salote Pilolevu Airport (HPA) on Lifuka Island in Haʻapai. This flight takes about 30 to 50 minutes and offers scenic views of the islands. From Lifuka Island, specifically from the main town of Pangai, the onward transfer to Uoleva takes place via a short boat shuttle organized by the local resorts, which usually takes 10 to 20 minutes.
Pre-Cruise Hotel & Travel Planning
Given the long journey and potential flight schedule changes, an overnight stay on Tongatapu before the onward flight to Haʻapai is strongly advised. This offers an ideal opportunity to acclimatize and avoids travel stress. Plan your trip to avoid Sundays for arrival in Tonga, as no domestic flights or charters are available on that day. Also, please note that Uoleva itself has no shops or ATMs; therefore, good preparation is crucial.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
