Port information & tips for Kolo Hite Island

Kolo Hite is a hidden gem in the picturesque Vona Vona Lagoon of the Solomon Islands and embodies the epitome of an untouched South Sea paradise. The small island impresses with its exclusive flair, snow-white sandy beaches, and crystal-clear water that invites you to relax. Highlights include snorkeling excursions to the vibrant coral gardens as well as visits to the mystical Skull Island with its historical treasures. Additionally, traditional welcome rituals of the local communities and the untouched flora delight visitors. Since the island has no fixed terminal, ships anchor in the bay, while landings take place directly on the beach via Zodiacs. This direct access guarantees travelers a maximum of nature experiences and tranquility far from any urban hustle and bustle, making the stay an unforgettable experience.

Kolo Hite Island, a jewel of the Solomon Islands in the Western Province, is typically reached as part of Fly & Cruise journeys. Careful planning and at least one overnight stay before embarkation are essential due to the long journey, ensuring you start your cruise adventure relaxed.

Airplane

International arrival from the DACH region primarily takes place via Honiara International Airport (HIR) on Guadalcanal, the main airport of the Solomon Islands. There are no direct flights; connections usually lead through hubs such as Brisbane (BNE) in Australia, Nadi (NAN) in Fiji, or Port Moresby (POM) in Papua New Guinea. From Honiara, Solomon Airlines offers regular domestic flights to Munda Airport (MUA) in the Western Province. The flight time from Honiara to Munda averages about 1 hour and 11 minutes to 1 hour and 35 minutes.

Onward Travel & Local Transfers

After arriving at Munda Airport (MUA), an important regional hub, you can easily reach Noro, located about 13 kilometers to the north, by taxi or minibus. Minibuses cost about SBD 20, while a taxi costs around SBD 300. Since Kolo Hite is located only about 7 kilometers south of Noro, a local boat transfer from there is the usual and most charming way to reach the island and get to your cruise ship.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Given the long international flights and necessary domestic connections, a pre-cruise overnight stay is strongly recommended. A night in Honiara or, even better, near Munda or Noro, allows for a relaxed arrival and the necessary buffer time for any travel delays. Many travelers take the opportunity to get to know the local culture and surroundings before the start of their cruise.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the journey: For shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the postings on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
