Returning to the ship

Pohnpei is one of the most remote and simultaneously fascinating islands in Micronesia and is reached from the DACH region exclusively via fly & cruise. The port, also known as Pohnpei International Seaport in Kolonia, is conveniently located near the island's capital. Due to the long journey via international hubs, a pre-cruise overnight stay on Pohnpei is highly recommended to start your cruise adventure relaxed.

Airplane

Pohnpei International Airport (PNI) is the nearest airport and is located only about 2.4 km to 5 km from Kolonia and the port. There are no direct flights from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland to Pohnpei. Travel usually takes place via international hubs such as Guam, Honolulu, or the Marshall Islands with United Airlines' "Island Hopper" service. Flight times are long due to the time difference and the island-hopping nature; therefore, planning with sufficient buffer is crucial.

Transfer & Shuttle

From Pohnpei International Airport (PNI), you can easily reach the port and the town of Kolonia by taxi or pre-booked transfer. The journey takes about 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic. Taxis at the airport do not have meters, so it is advisable to agree on a fare of approximately 10 to 20 USD before starting the journey. Some cruise lines may offer their own shuttle services for their passengers who are booked on specific excursion programs. Public bus connections from the airport do not exist.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Given the long and often multi-day journey to Pohnpei, an overnight stay in a hotel in Kolonia before embarkation is highly recommended. Hotels such as the Ocean View Plaza Hotel or the Cliff Rainbow Hotel offer comfortable accommodations with views of Kolonia Harbor and are easily accessible. Many hotels also often offer an airport transfer as part of the service or for a small fee, which further simplifies the journey to the ship. You should confirm the availability of a transfer when booking.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
