Rangiroa is the second largest atoll in the world and a true natural paradise in the heart of the island world of French Polynesia. Its fantastic location in the Tuamotu Archipelago delights visitors with its seemingly endless turquoise lagoons, a vibrant underwater world, and a relaxed Polynesian flair. Exclusive highlights in the immediate vicinity include the famous Tiputa Pass, where dolphins regularly frolic in the current waves, as well as the renowned Gauguin's Pearl pearl farm and the world's only coral vineyard, Vin de Tahiti. Since Rangiroa is a classic tender port, cruise guests reach the central Tiputa Pier in the heart of the charming village comfortably by boat. From this arrival point, local handicraft shops, cozy cafés, and the breathtaking nature of the coral island are wonderfully easy to explore thanks to the short distances.
Rangiroa, a jewel of the Tuamotu Islands in French Polynesia, is traditionally reached from the DACH region via Fly & Cruise. As it is an atoll, there are no classic highway connections or train stations, and the "port" is usually a mooring point for tender boats. Due to the long journey, a pre-cruise overnight stay in Tahiti and/or Rangiroa itself is recommended.
Airplane
Rangiroa Airport (RGI) is the primary point of arrival for the atoll. International flights from Europe first land at Tahiti Faa'a International Airport (PPT) near Papeete. From there, domestic flights with Air Tahiti operate several times a day to Rangiroa, with a flight time of approximately one hour. A direct journey to Rangiroa from the DACH region is not possible; at least two stopovers (usually in Paris and Papeete) are always required.
Transfer & Shuttle
After arrival at Rangiroa Airport (RGI), transfers to the accommodation or the ship are generally provided by local minibuses, taxis, or shuttles from hotels and cruise lines. The airport is located in the north of the atoll, near the two main villages of Avatoru and Tiputa. Distances are short, and the drive to the respective mooring point or hotel usually takes only a few minutes.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long flight time and the time difference, an overnight stay in Papeete (Tahiti) before continuing to Rangiroa is highly recommended to arrive at the ship well-rested. If you arrive in Rangiroa on the day of embarkation, a pre-cruise stay on the atoll is also advisable to ensure a relaxed arrival. Numerous resorts on Rangiroa offer airport transfers in addition to overnight stays.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and consider that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The following also applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
