Port information & tips for Raiatea

Raiatea is considered the spiritual center of French Polynesia and enchants visitors as the "sacred island" with deep cultural significance and untouched nature. The atmosphere is characterized by majestic mountains, a shimmering lagoon, and the lively flair of the main town, Uturoa. Highlights in the area include the colorful market of Uturoa, the impressive viewpoint on Mont Tapioi, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Marae Taputapuātea, which is easily accessible thanks to short travel distances. Cruise ships dock directly at the Quai d’Uturoa, located right in the town center, providing travelers with direct access to charming boutiques, local cafes, and the full infrastructure of the town.

The port of Raiatea is located right in the heart of the charming island capital, Uturoa, and offers excellent connections to the local transport networks. Thanks to its central location at the Quai d’Uturoa, guests can reach their ship quickly and enjoy a comfortable entry into the island world of the Society Islands.

Airplane

Travel from the DACH region typically involves flying via Tahiti-Faaa International Airport (PPT), from which Air Tahiti operates regular connecting flights to Raiatea Airport (RFP). Raiatea Airport is located just three kilometers north of Uturoa, allowing for a quick journey to the port while offering impressive views of the lagoon during the approach.

Transfer & Shuttle

From the island airport, you can comfortably reach the cruise terminal in Uturoa by taxi in about five to ten minutes. Additionally, many cruise lines provide organized shuttle buses that pick up guests directly from the aircraft and transport them along with their luggage to the berth, while local providers offer additional private transfers for an individual arrival.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long flight time from Europe and the time difference, arriving at least two days before embarkation is highly recommended. A stay at one of the resorts on Raiatea or on the sister island of Taha'a, which lies directly in the shared lagoon, ensures relaxed acclimatization and provides the ideal opportunity to explore sacred sites such as the Marae Taputapuatea in peace beforehand.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and consider that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times may change at short notice.
