Cruise ships mostly use the central Fare Quay directly in the island's main town, which, thanks to its prime location, allows immediate access to the vibrant village life. Local markets, charming boutiques, and small cafes are just a few minutes' walk from the pier and can be explored quite comfortably on foot.
Huahine, the "Garden Island" of French Polynesia, is usually accessed by cruise ships via the central harbor in the main village of Fare. Due to its remote location in the Pacific, arrival from the DACH region typically involves a flight and requires careful planning through the Tahiti hub.
Airplane
Arrival from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland is via Tahiti Faa’a International Airport (PPT), which is mostly served via Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Paris. From there, you can reach the regional Huahine-Fare Airport (HUH) with domestic carriers Air Tahiti or Air Moana in around 40 to 50 flight minutes, with the island airport being located only about three kilometers from the harbor in Fare.
Transfer & Local Mobility
From Huahine island airport, you can reach the pier in Fare in less than ten minutes by taxi or the shuttle services provided by the cruise lines. Since larger cruise ships often anchor in the deep waters of the lagoon and bring guests ashore by tender boat, the transfer goes directly to the central pier in the town center, from where all amenities and excursion providers are easily reachable on foot.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long travel time of over 24 hours and the significant time difference, arrival at least two days before embarkation is highly recommended. A stay in one of the resorts on Huahine Nui or Huahine Iti allows for relaxed acclimatization and guarantees a stress-free start to the cruise, while simultaneously allowing you to discover the Marae cultural monuments and the island's untouched nature at your leisure.
