Returning to the ship

Ovalau, an idyllic island in Fiji, is a charming cruise destination primarily reached by sea after guests arrive in Fiji by plane. The main port of call for cruise ships is usually Levuka, the island's historic capital.

Airplane

The nearest international airport for traveling to Fiji is Nadi International Airport (NAN) on Viti Levu, Fiji's largest island. From Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, long-haul flights with at least one layover are required, which is why we recommend arriving one day before embarkation. From Nadi, there are connecting flights to Levuka Airport (LEV) on Ovalau, located in Bureta, about a 50-minute drive from Levuka. Alternatively, guests can fly to Nausori International Airport (SUV) near the capital Suva on Viti Levu, which is closer to the ferry connection to Ovalau.

Transfer & Ferry

From Nadi International Airport (NAN), you can use transfers to Nausori International Airport (SUV) in Suva to take the ferry to Ovalau from there. The ferry connection from Natovi on Viti Levu to Buresala on Ovalau is operated by Goundar Shipping and takes about one hour. From Buresala, Levuka can be reached by taxi or local bus in about 15 minutes. From Levuka Airport (LEV) on Ovalau, taxis or hotel shuttles are available for the approximately 50-minute drive to Levuka.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long travel times and the often required connecting flights or ferry trips, we recommend staying overnight on Viti Levu, for example in Nadi or Suva, before continuing to Ovalau. This allows for a relaxed start to the cruise and offers the opportunity to adjust to the time difference. In Levuka itself, there are only limited accommodation options, but they offer an authentic insight into the historic world heritage site.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination area—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
